    Installing Nubu Builder

Download the Nubu Builder script and set it up in After Effects.

Nubu Builder is the After Effects panel that turns a finished project into a Nubu template. You install it once; from then on it lives inside After Effects.

    Download#

    Download Nubu BuilderVersion 1.1.0 · 225 KB

The download is a single script file, Nubu - Template Builder.jsx.

    Before you install#

Nubu Builder saves your template schema to disk, so After Effects must be allowed to write files:

    1. Open the After Effects preferences: After Effects > Settings > Scripting & Expressions on macOS, or Edit > Preferences > Scripting & Expressions on Windows.
    2. Tick Allow Scripts to Write Files and Access Network.
    3. Click OK.

Install as a dockable panel (recommended)#

    1. In After Effects, choose File > Scripts > Install ScriptUI Panel…
    2. Select the downloaded Nubu - Template Builder.jsx and confirm.
    3. Restart After Effects.
    4. Open the panel from the bottom of the Window menu (listed as Nubu - Template Builder.jsx). It docks like any other panel.

    Or run it without installing#

For a one-off session, choose File > Scripts > Run Script File… and select Nubu - Template Builder.jsx. The panel opens in a floating window titled Nubu Builder.

    First open#

    1. Open the After Effects project you want to turn into a template and save it. The schema file is created next to the project and named after it; if the project is unsaved, Nubu Builder asks you to save first.
    2. The panel shows the schema path at the top, a search field, the schema tree (Template Comps, properties by comp, and Project footage), + Add and - Remove buttons, a detail panel, and Export… at the bottom.

You're ready to add template comps.

    Troubleshooting#

    • "File write access is not enabled." Turn on Allow Scripts to Write Files and Access Network as described above.
    • "Save the After Effects project first." The project needs a saved .aep file before a schema can be created next to it.
    • The panel isn't in the Window menu. Re-run File > Scripts > Install ScriptUI Panel… and restart After Effects.
