Connecting OpenAI
Bring your own OpenAI API key for AI tasks inside flows.
Nubu's AI features run on your organisation's own provider keys. Connecting OpenAI lets AI Nodes use OpenAI models for text tasks such as translation, billed to your OpenAI account directly.
Before you start
- AI integrations are part of the Business+ plan.
- Only the organisation owner can manage API keys.
- Create an API key in your OpenAI account at platform.openai.com/api-keys.
Connect
- In Nubu, open Settings > Integrations and choose the AI tab.
- In the Providers card, find OpenAI and click Add API key.
- Paste the key and click Test & save. Nubu makes a live test call before storing anything; a key that doesn't work is rejected on the spot.
The key is stored encrypted and never displayed again: the card shows only its last four characters.
After connecting
On the provider card you can:
- Toggle the provider Enabled or off without deleting the key.
- Set a Default model, used when flow builders don't choose one.
- Restrict available models to an approved list.
- Test connection at any time.
- Replace key to rotate credentials; the old key is deleted.
- Disconnect to delete the stored key permanently. AI Nodes using OpenAI stop working until a new key is added.
Usage, spend and guard rails
- OpenAI bills your account directly for what AI Nodes use; Nubu caches identical requests so rebuilds don't re-spend.
- The Organisation card on the same page holds the master AI enabled switch, weekly budgets, and whether members may choose models.
- The Permissions card sets which roles may run AI nodes.
