    Adding footage

Register the images, video and audio a render can swap.

Footage entries are the media slots of a template. Registered items can be replaced per render from the flow editor; anything not registered stays exactly as designed.

    Add footage#

    1. In the After Effects Project panel, select one or more footage items (images, video or audio).
    2. In Nubu Builder, click + Add.
    3. The Add Footage Item dialog opens. Item Info shows what was detected: the Category (Image or Video), the Dimensions, and for video the Frame Rate and Duration.
    4. Under Details, give the item a Name that describes its role, for example Hero image or Background clip, plus an optional Description.
    5. Click Add Item.

The item appears in the tree under Project, grouped by category, and the schema saves automatically.

    What gets recorded#

For each item the schema stores its category, file type, dimensions and, for video, the frame rate and duration in frames. Nubu uses this at build time, for example to warn when a chosen clip is shorter than the slot.

    Swappable versus baked#

    • Registered items become slots: flows pick which asset fills them for each creative.
    • Unregistered items are baked: they render as designed, every time.

Register anything that varies per market, product or campaign. Leave brand furniture (logo animations, transitions, textures) baked unless it genuinely changes.

    Good source habits#

    • Keep swappable media as separate footage items, not pre-rendered into other layers.
    • Match the slot's intended dimensions and length; longer clips can be trimmed in the flow editor, shorter ones can't be stretched.
    • On export, every registered file is copied into the package's (Footage)/ folder and the project is relinked, so the package is fully portable.
